Over the years I have read a number of fantasy books, and I was very pleased with how this book was an actual fantasy (def: the faculty or activity of imagining impossible or improbable things). Unlike many other fantasy books out there, the world the author created was unexpected, innovative, and imaginative. I never felt as if I was reading a story from a rip-off world. I’ve been disappointed before in going into a novel thinking I was going to be intrigued and discover a new world. But, that definitely did not happen with this one, and this debut novel already has a spot above others that I have read.
